Aspen’s art scene is arguably one of the most spirited in the world, despite its small-town size. From longstanding institutions like the Aspen Institute and Anderson Ranch Arts Center to a bustling mix of galleries, fairs and festivals — matched with a powerful list of private, resident collectors — Aspen is a must-stop mecca on the global arts and culture social calendar every summer.
This season, Christie’s Americas is expanding its presence to include the art-centric enclaves of the Hamptons and Aspen through a pop-up residency series in both locations in June and July, respectively. Each Christie’s office location will feature a roster of public exhibitions, client events, and educational programming hosted from a dedicated retail gallery space with works offered for immediate sale, ranging from 20th and 21st Century Art to luxury goods like jewels, watches and handbags.
“Summer is the optimal time to meet our clients where they live, and bring with us the fine art and luxury objects for which Christie’s is so well known,” shared Christie’s Americas president Bonnie Brennan. “Our teams have curated a dynamic series of opening exhibitions well-tailored to summer in Aspen and the Hamptons, and we look forward to seeing new and established clients in each of these idyllic settings.”
The summer residency program resumes Christie’s long-running strategy of creating pop-up engagement opportunities in key locations around the U.S. and builds on the success of similar client-led programming initiatives in Palm Beach and Chicago.
“Christie’s has continued to build a presence in Aspen over the past 20 years,” added Christie’s deputy chairman Capera Ryan. “We are always delighted to partner with the arts and cultural institutions of Aspen for thoughtful conversations while bringing our own talent and art to the community.”

Basquiat to Banksy: Off the Wall Aspen
Following the success of “Basquiat to Banksy: Off the Wall London,” Christie’s is pleased to present a second iteration of the selling exhibition in Aspen. Bringing together the cult figures of the 80s with the counter-cultural artists of today, this exhibition will celebrate the negotiation between street and studio over nearly half a century on the walls of Christie’s Aspen downtown office. From the vigorous marks of Basquiat to the iconic motifs of Banksy, “Basquiat to Banksy: Off the Wall Aspen” seeks to recreate the buzzing energy of major metropolitan streets.
July 17–28, 2021
Paying homage to Aspen and the surrounding region, “Out West” will feature artworks by artists who worked in, were inspired by and depicted the American West. From Ed Ruscha’s mountain paintings to Richard Prince’s cowboys, “Out West” will bring together a group of artists connected by their love of western imagery and landscape.
