In the high alpine paradise of Aspen Snowmass — known as the ultimate playground for the global elite — it’s no surprise that the local private club offerings are especially exclusive. For those who are spending the summer at altitude or planning ahead for winter, here is a complete guide to the Roaring Fork Valley’s members-only meccas
At what is one of the steepest private clubs in the world — sitting at 11,212 feet atop Aspen Mountain — a mid-day ski break doesn’t get more swank. Located within its own wing of the Sundeck restaurant and operated by The Little Nell, Aspen Mountain Club welcomes members to warm-up in an intimate living and dining room where a gourmet lunch is presented daily during winter months. Opened in 2000, it was designed by the late, great David Anthony Easton, who appointed every aspect of the 4,400-square-foot space down to its antique Austrian tables and hand-woven rugs. Currently, Aspen Mountain Club is getting an update by Luis Bustamante Interior Design of Spain, expanding the footprint and bringing a contemporary aesthetic to life (slated to reopen for the 2021/2022 ski season). A membership includes two Premier Passes, a private locker at the base of the Silver Queen Gondola and reciprocal privileges at the Game Creek Club in Vail, Telluride Ski & Golf Club and Eagle Ski Club in Switzerland.
Initiation fee: $250,000 (by invitation only)

It was 32 years ago when the doors to Aspen’s first-ever members-only supper club opened its doors on East Hopkins Avenue in the downtown core. The Caribou Club today, in the same storied location, offers gourmet dining, an extensive wine list, bar and nightclub. “The Bou” (as it’s known among locals) opens nightly at 6:30 p.m. for dinner service with the real party getting underway at 10:00 p.m. when the in-house DJ starts spinning. Caribou Club members are permitted to invite an unlimited number of guests for dinner and for a small door fee, into the nightclub, which is open until 2:00 a.m. on most nights. For non-members, the Caribou Club opens its doors once a year to the public for an infamous Halloween party.

At Casa Tua, they take the term “mi casa es su casa” truly to heart. First founded in Miami Beach in 2001 by husband-and-wife team Miky and Leticia Grendene, Casa Tua opened its second location at altitude in 2010. Rustic and cozy, yet impossibly elegant, Casa Tua Aspen is an extension of the couple’s impeccable style stemming from his experience in real estate and hospitality and her years as an international model. While downstairs is an authentic Italian restaurant that’s open to the public, the second floor of Casa Tua Aspen is designated as a private club exclusively for members and their guests to relish in good company, enjoy food made with love, relax with superb wine and participate in lively social events year-round. The couple recently opened Cucina in Saks Fifth Avenue at Brickell City Centre and a Paris outpost, located inside the new J.K. Place hotel — both accessible via the Founding and Global memberships.

Renowned as one of the most exclusive traditional country clubs in the country, the Maroon Creek Club is as good as it gets. At the forefront, the Tom Fazio-designed golf course consistently lands on the top of “best of” breakdowns, but getting a tee time is no easy feat. The waiting list timeframe to join the Maroon Creek Club is estimated at more than five years and a current member must sponsor your application. Once you’re in, members enjoy gourmet cuisine, a resort-worthy swimming pool, a fitness center and an active tennis program (MCC operates nine outdoor courts during summer months and four indoor courts year-round). Club life at the Maroon Creek Club is just about as good as it gets.

Situated in lush Brush Creek valley and just minutes from the ski resort lies an all-new Snowmass Club. Established in 1980, the classic country club complex underwent a complete renovation of its two signature restaurants, Three Peaks (formerly Sage) and Black Saddle Bar & Grill, plus a multi-million dollar upgrade to the 19,000-square-foot athletic club and a full-service spa. Slated for a grand reopening on August 6, the Snowmass Club will celebrate a new era of the active mountain lifestyle. Upgrades to the award-winning, Irish links-style golf course designed by Jim Engh were also made, where unobstructed views of Snowmass Mountain, Mount Daly and Capitol Peak surprise at every turn. The outdoor tennis scene stands apart (two indoor courts are available year-round) with a busy calendar of clinics, drills and match play for kids, juniors and adults; a recently expanded pickleball program is also available. Four outdoor swimming pools and three outdoor hot tubs complete the experience, with the Daly Beach Club serving up summer favorites.
